We're looking for a Fundraising Co-ordinator
9th September 2018
A space is available on the 2018-2019 CHOP committee for an ARU student who loves being creative, organising and getting people together for a good cause! The ARU Fundraising Coordinator would work together with the UoC Fundraising Coordinator to organise a programme of fundraising events such as spoken word nights, concerts, raffles and charity dinners (or whatever other ideas you have to bring to the table). The money we raise goes to charities supporting the local homeless community, such as Jimmy’s, Wintercomfort, the Cambridge Cyrenians and the Cambridge Churches Homeless Project.
No experience is necessary – just passion and enthusiasm. With around 2-3 fundraising events each term and weekly committee meetings, the role should not be a huge time commitment (around 3-4 hours a week is typical).
This role would be excellent for a CV and you would join a team of friendly, enthusiastic students who are passionate about supporting Cambridge’s homeless population and bringing local communities together. If you are interested, please email chop@cusu.cam.ac.uk with:
a brief description of why you are interested in the role,
what makes you suitable for the role,
any ideas you have for fundraising events.
CHOP Summer Barbeque/Picnic

We’d love you to come and join us on Sunday for our barbecue picnic at Jesus Green, along with guests and staff from Jimmy’s and Wintercomfort!
Everyone is welcome to come along. It’s free to come to, but any food or drink you can bring along to share round will be very welcome (no worries if you can’t!) Just let us know if you’re interested by filling in this quick form
Successful beginning for Wednesdays with Wintercomfort!
12th May 2018
In the last two weeks we’ve piloted a new project, Wednesdays with Wintercomfort, where students come along for an hour and serve tea, coffee and cakes/confectionery to guests at Wintercomfort, while chatting and getting to know people.
With initiatives like this, we hope to break down the barriers that exist between the student and homeless communities and build new friendships, benefitting both parties and demystifying what can often be the abstract nature of homelessness. We’ll be carrying this project on in the next academic year and looking for weekly volunteers to bake treats and/or come along – so keep an eye out if you’re interested!

The following essential items are particularly short in supply and donations would be extremely welcome:

We’ll be holding the collection in the foyer of the Old Divinity School, opposite the main entrance (Great Gate) to St John’s College, alongside the JCR charity clothes sale for Jimmy’s Cambridge – so why not donate or buy some clothes from the sale while you’re there! Join the Committee

We’re looking for enthusiastic, organised and compassionate students, committed to helping and engaging with the local homeless community, to fill the roles of President, Secretary, Charities Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinators and Community Engagement Coordinators in the upcoming academic year.
Being on the CHOP committee is hugely rewarding – you’ll be part of a team planning and organising events and projects to raise awareness, fundraise and engage students with the local homeless community. We’d love to hear any ideas you have to bring to CHOP next year!
See the poster below for information about each of the roles. A plain text version, including more information about the qualities we’ll be looking for in each role, can be found here.
To apply, please email cambridgehomelessoutreach@gmail.com by Tuesday 24th April with a brief (around 250 words, although longer is fine) description of why you’d like to join the committee, which position or positions you’re interested in and why you’d be suitable for them, and any ideas you have for CHOP next year.
